Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, was a descendent of Robert E. Lee who was a Southern civil war general. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama and worked as an airline clerk with Eastern Airlines in the 1950s. To Kill a Mockingbird was Harper Lee's first book. Even though her book had great success she did not continue writing and is still alive today.
