The Scottsborro Boys. Jack Cal and Chris

On March 25, 1931 in Memphis Tennessee,a fight broke out between young white and black young men on freight train. The boys were looking for government jobs that they had heard rumors about. As the fight ended the black boys came up victorious leaving only one white boy on the train as the other white boys were thrown off. At the same time as the black boys were on the train so were two white girls. The girls accused the black buys of rape, on top of already being charged with assault. They were all convicted and sentenced to death. Later Ruby Bates, one of the white girls who was supposedly raped, came out and said she wasn't raped. Many trials came afterward. One boy was sentenced to death, and the others died naturally after being released on parole.
