The 1930s Natalie S. and Sophie G.

The 1930s were a time of hardships and troubles. Money was scarce because of the Great Depression. One of the popular radio shows was Franklin Roosevelt's Fireside Chats, which were very influential to the Americans. The American dream had become a nightmare, and people were questioning the principles the based there life off: capitalism, democracy, and individualism. Between 1929 and 1932 the income of the average American family was down by 40%. The government often supported art programs such as The Works of Art Project and The Federal Art Project. The artists of the 1930s based their works on American culture and history.
