The 1930's Sophie V. and Ellie

The 1930's were greatly effected by The Great Depression and money was scarce. Historical Events such as the Social Security Act of 1935 set up a program to ensure income for the elderly. Another event was the Wagner Act of 1935 which gave workers the legal right to unionize. Significant buildings such as the Empire State building, the Chrysler building and the Rockefeller Center were completed in the 1930's. Fads such as stamp collecting, horseback riding, parlor games, and board games such as Monopoly became popular in the 1930s. Women's apparel changed from the 1920s flapper era to simple dresses and longer hems. Men's apparel changed to high waisted pants and sweater vests. Zippers also became more widespread instead of buttons. The 1930s were the golden age for Hollywood. The 1930s were filled with new ideas and influenced how we see the world today.
